Domain setup instructions

Connecting lintextractors.com to your new website

Your new site is built and running. The last step is telling your domain name to point at it instead of the old site. Everything below happens inside your GoDaddy account, and it should take about ten minutes of actual clicking.

Domain
lintextractors.com
You'll need
Your GoDaddy login

Before you begin

  1. 1

    Open your domain's settings

Go to godaddy.com and sign in. Click your name in the top-right corner, then choose My Products.

Scroll down to All Products and Services. Under Domains, find lintextractors.com and click the word DNS on the right-hand side.

The Domains section of My Products, with the DNS link on the right highlighted
1 — Click DNS, not Manage. That opens the page you'll use for everything below.
  2. 2

Move your settings back to GoDaddy

Right now another company is handling your domain's settings behind the scenes. This step brings them home to GoDaddy so you can manage them yourself.

On the DNS Management page you'll see a row of tabs. Click the Nameservers tab, then click the black Change Nameservers button on the right.

The DNS Management tabs with Nameservers selected and the Change Nameservers button highlighted
1 the Nameservers tab  ·  2 the Change Nameservers button
What you'll see: your page will say something like “Using custom nameservers,” listing addresses ending in ionblade.net. That's expected — those are the ones we're replacing.

A box titled Edit nameservers opens. Choose GoDaddy Nameservers (recommended), then click Save.

The Edit nameservers box with GoDaddy Nameservers recommended selected and Save highlighted
1 choose GoDaddy Nameservers (recommended)  ·  2 click Save

If GoDaddy asks you to confirm, go ahead — that warning is normal.

  3. 3

    Wait about an hour

Nothing to do here. The change usually takes 30 minutes to 2 hours. Feel free to close the page and come back.

Your old website may go dark during this window. That is normal, and it's temporary.

You'll know it's ready when the DNS Records tab shows a list of records with an Add New Record button above it.

  4. 4

    Add one record

Back on the DNS Management page, click the DNS Records tab, then click the black Add New Record button.

The Add New Record button on the DNS Records tab
The Add New Record button sits just above the list of records.

Fill it in exactly like this, then click Save:

    Type CNAME
    Name www
    Value lint-extractors.pages.dev
    TTL 1 Hour

If GoDaddy says a record named “www” already exists, edit that one instead of adding a second, and replace its value with the address above.

  5. 5

Point the short version of your address

Step 4 handled www.lintextractors.com. This step makes the shorter lintextractors.com land in the same place.

Click the Forwarding tab. You'll see two sections — Domain and Subdomains. In the Domain section (the top one), click Add Forwarding.

The Forwarding tab showing Domain and Subdomains sections, with the Domain section's Add Forwarding button highlighted
1 the Forwarding tab  ·  2 Add Forwarding in the Domain section — the top one, not Subdomains

A box titled Forwarding opens. Set it up like this:

The Forwarding box with the protocol dropdown, destination field, Permanent 301 option and Save button highlighted
    1 change the dropdown to https://  ·  2 type the address below  ·  3 leave Permanent (301) selected  ·  4 click Save
    Dropdown https://
    Destination URL www.lintextractors.com
    Forward Type Permanent (301)
Two things to watch: the dropdown starts on http:// — change it to https://. And leave Forward with masking unselected.
  6. 6

Text me — I'll finish the rest

That's your part done. Send me a quick text at 516-518-2390 and I'll switch on the security certificate (the padlock in the address bar) and confirm everything is live. That's usually done within the hour.

How you'll know it worked

Type lintextractors.com into your phone or computer and you'll see your new site, with a small padlock next to the address.

If you see the old site for a little while, that's just your device remembering the previous address — it clears on its own. Trying it on your phone with Wi-Fi turned off is a quick way to see the real result.

If anything looks different than described

GoDaddy moves things around from time to time, so a button may sit somewhere else or be worded slightly differently. If you're unsure at any point, stop and call me — nothing here is urgent, and it's much easier to sort out before something is saved than after.

Happy to do this together instead. Call any time and we'll screen-share; the whole thing takes about five minutes with two people on it.
